[1] End of the world – A sobering thought

Railway lines disappearing into the distance.

Just prior to Jesus giving a detailed teaching on the end of the world, the religious Institution of that day refused to respect his authority. Wise move or not? This place was now forsaken, and to be utterly ruined. By Jesus walking away, it signified the departure of the Presence of God…

War between humans and God?

God's hand over a crowd of people.

When you read the first few chapters of Genesis it looks like a battle zone – war between humans and God! 1) Adam and Eve expelled from the Garden of Eden… 2) Later, God flooded the world due to the wickedness in it… 3) And later again, God rained fire down upon the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.
Is God really at war with mankind?…

Gays can’t stay at Bed and Breakfasts or hotels?

An angry man sitting pointing to the door.

Isn’t it judgemental to say: “Gays can’t stay at Bed and Breakfasts or hotels”. But hasn’t that happened? How many people have been turned away from a Bed and Breakfast for being: Greedy? Or an angry person? Yes someone can be turned away for shouting at the proprietor, but not for living an angry life? …

What should the Gospel message be?

Nativity scene with wooden characters.

In the Bible there are various examples of the Gospel message being preached. So when we look at them we need to ask: “Who is being spoken to?” [1] People who have no Bible knowledge. [2] People who are religious, who know the Bible but who are not saved. So what should the Gospel message be?

Spiritual health and bankruptcy

Monopoly game in progress.

Monopoly is good if you’ve got some property with a house or two, and therefore you’ve got a slim chance of winning.
But if you’re the one with no sets of properties, then your fate is certain!
Whether you survive for the next two minutes, or another hour, it doesn’t really matter, because you know what the outcome will be.
You are going to end up BANKRUPT, and you’ll lose.
Sooner or later, you are going to land on Park Lane…

A warning from God

Cartoon face full of fear.

In God’s eyes Nineveh, the Assyrian city, was a bad city and yet He reached out to them in mercy.
They certainly didn’t deserve His mercy and they lived 300 miles away from Israel.
But God sent the prophet Jonah to Nineveh to preach to them…

God’s purposes move in mysterious ways

A Whale leaping out of the water.

Throughout history the Lord has always desired to have someone, or a group of people, or a nation, to be His people or spokesperson.
So very early on, He chose individuals, like Noah and Abraham, etc.
Then later He gave His Laws to Israel and He sent them prophets.
But what about the rest of mankind?
Are they excluded from God’s Kingdom…

[7] What we are told about the actual end of the world

End of the world - a exploding planet.

From the Bible we can fit together various pieces to form part of a picture of the end of the world.
Before we dive into this we just need to understand how to interpret some things in the Bible…

How the justice of God was satisfied

Judges and barristers walking to their cases.

Could God ignore mankind wanting to go their own way?
Could God just declare a “Not guilty” verdict over the human race?
That would be like all the Judges in the courts, saying: “You are guilty, but I’ll pretend you’re not, so you are free to leave!”.
It would not be lawful, to let the guilty go free…

[8] Trumpet call of God

Hebrew trumpet made from a ram's horn.

Trumpets were used for at least 6 different reasons in the Old Testament, and each one is relevant to the second coming of Christ:
[1] It is time to meet God for a very solemn occasion…
[2] It is time to meet together as a joyful community…
[3] It is time to go into battle…
[4] Trumpets in worship…
And more…
